Estimated £375,000 Scoop6 pool in play at Ascot and Haydock
With no winner in last week’s Saturday Tote Scoop6 pool, there will be a combined pool of around £375,000 for Ascot and Haydock on Saturday. With an estimated £85,000 set to fill the win fund and up to £290,000 in the Bonus fund, prize money on offer is beginning to swell nicely once again.
The pool opens in the 1.50pm at Ascot, where Oliver Sherwood’s mare Papagana bids to build on a fine effort in Grade 1 company at the track last time out. At 2.25pm, we’ll get to see if the highly touted French recruit Pic D’Orhy can stage his coming out party for Paul Nicholls. This five-year-old is on a lofty enough BHA rating based on what he’s actually achieved on the track thus far, but he carries a good reputation and we’ll find out where we are with him in this race.
Saturday’s Trifecta race within the Scoop6 pool is Leg 4 up in Haydock, the Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase, where ten fine staying chasers line up in search of a share of the £75,000 prize money.
Tote spokesman Kevin O’Malley said: “We have some competitive handicaps in the mix on Saturday, but with the biggest field only housing eleven horses, there are no real banana skin races. We’d expect punters to have a good go at this win fund, anyone managing to negotiate the six leg pool unscathed would set up an exciting tilt at a hefty Bonus fund on Cheltenham Trials Day.â€
With just the five runners, the Grade 1 Matchbook Clarence House Chase at Ascot escapes Scoop6 duty, but the rematch between Defi Du Seuil and Un Des Sceaux is a feature focus of the day. The rising Philip Hobbs trained star won the argument at Sandown back in December, but this is a new day on Un Des Sceaux’s favourite track, so it is an intriguing clash and essential viewing at 3.35pm.
