Potter’s Corner secures £10,000 Tote Ten to Follow prize for December winner

Following its resurrection for the 2019/20 National Hunt season, the first of four £10,000 Tote Ten to Follow monthly prizes has been won by Robert Lynch from Kilmarnock.

A long-time Tote Ten to Follow fan, Mr Lynch secured the five-figure sum after some outstanding performances from his stable during the festive month. Potter’s Corner was an inspired choice for the winner. The Welsh National hero picked up a mammoth 77.4 points after securing the Chepstow showpiece, in the process becoming the top scoring horse in the game.

Clan Des Obeaux, who also made Mr Lynch’s list, landed the King George VI Chase at Kempton and secured 25 bonus points in the process. Asking Mr Lynch what made him choose the Nicholls runner, Mr Lynch said: “Well he won the race last year. I used to be a runner and I just look at horses in the same light. Three miles around Kempton still takes some getting and Clan Des Obeaux had proven he has the stamina for it.”

Mr Lynch went on to explain that he’s a big fan of the competition and was delighted to see it return: “I think it is a great competition. For a £5 entry you get six months of entertainment, so I thoroughly enjoy it and I’m delighted it has returned. I’m not much of a flat racing man but I love the jumps. I haven’t decided how I’m going to spend the money yet, but we are going on holiday to Tenerife next week.”

The likes of Defi Du Seuil, Thyme Hill and Envoi Allen all picked up Grade 1s for Mr Lynch and helped take him to a tally of 247.5 points - 21.6 points clear of the next best stable.
